Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

What skill would you like to learn?

I’ve spent a good deal of my adult life pursuing an array of different (and sometimes expensive) hobbies. Earning my private pilot license tops the list. I got it in 1995 when renting a Cessna 152 was about $100/hr wet, and the instructor was $50/hr. I’d hate to see what they charge now.

Then there was sailing. I learned the mechanics and sea rules through Power Squadron and bought a 25′ Catalina with a small inboard diesel and a wing keel.  That ship (dubbed Practical Magic) drafted 2’11”. You could scoot it across wet grass.

Crew (rowing) was a slightly cheaper endeavor, around $500/yr, to join a club for the season. The regattas were fun, and I even got to participate in the Head of the Charles (a three mile race) in Boston. I also took up running. I did it long enough to run four marathons, and then my knees told me they were done.

That’s more than a lot of people do, so what else is there?

SCUBA!

I love the water, and I’ve done a lot of snorkeling.  I’ve never taken the, er… plunge to get scuba certified.

Given my history, I’d like to think I’ll get it done. Time is less and less on my side, though. I’d better get cracking. 😉
