I broke my camera years ago

Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?

You’re kidding me. Someone expects me to remember what I thought last year? Look, I’m old. I couldn’t tell you what I had for lunch yesterday 😜

OK, I’ll play along.

I don’t “picture” anything.  It’s not the Buddhist way. There is no future. There is no past. There is only the now. Make the best decisions for the now and the future works itself out.

This has been my model for several years now. I have no expectations for the future, so I’m not disappointed. I write because I like to write. I’ve discovered more about myself. I’ve exposed myself to new writing styles. Within this blog, I’ve met some very talented people. I don’t write picturing that I’ll one day pen the next great American novel. I’m here for the journey.

I like to play bass because I like to play bass. It gives me the opportunity to play out. I get to play alongside my drummer hubs in Rowdy O’Reilly. I’ve met great people in music also, and got to do some unique things like play on the radio. I don’t play because I want to be a “rock star,” although my fifteen year old self would have disagreed. I’m here for the journey.

Despite all your planning, life is only now. Tomorrow brings what it will and it may or may not be aligned with what you picture.

Throw out your camera.
