Keeping me safely insane

What do you enjoy most about writing?

Writing, to me, is like dreaming.

Dreaming, it is believed, helps us sort out our subconscious thoughts.  Others say it helps regulate emotions and organize your thoughts from the events of the past.

They are all theories of course, but regardless, every theory I examine, I can relate it in some way to what writing does for me. Sometimes, as I write, I remember things that I hadn’t thought about in years. On occasion, these lost thoughts lead to some sort of revelation. I think I know myself, but like everyone else, I’m an onion. Layer upon layer covers us all.

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.”

— William Charles Dement, American Author

As it stands, my blog is less than a month old. I’m writing almost every day, about whatever the hell I want. In the last week, I feel closer to my true self than I have in years.

Writing is like dreaming. As my characters develop and take life, I daydream about them, what they are thinking, what they are experiencing. Most of my novels are comprised of the daydreams that come after the plot is decided. Great post! Enjoy your writing!

Thank you! It’s very much like that for me too.
