A day is a day

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I look at it this way…

I’ve been working my ass off for the better part of my adult life. An unproductive, lazy day is a rare treat. A restful, restorative lazy day – also a rare treat. I savor them both equally.

I would start feeling a little guilty, though, if I had multiple lazy days in a row. Then, all of a sudden, it’s no longer a rare treat. The novelty wears off. The feeling of your favorite, fuzzy comforter, and a hot cup of tea loses its luster.

I can’t think of the last time I had multiple lazy days in a row, except for when I had a grippy-sock holiday a few years back after getting sepsis from passing a kidney stone. The novelty wears off really quick when you’re cathetered and sharing a room with a woman that snores like all the Three Stooges at once. I really shouldn’t count it because it wasn’t by choice.

I guess I’m just a restless person. I like doing things.

At the end of the day, a day is a day. Well-rested or unproductive, it matters not. We have a limited amount of them, so make them all count.

Exactly. It seems like from roughly 25 to 65 feel like we have to keep going and pushing ourselves and feel guilty for being lazy. My 80 year old dad told me his goal in his later years is to stop and savor the good things in life. I can’t wait to get to that point

Friendly advice – don’t wait! Sadly, I’ve known several people who passed before they had a chance to retire. One of them was my brother – he was 61, just a few years away. Every one of them had big plans that never came to fruition. There is no time like the present to savor the moment. 😉

After retiring I’ve found more of these days looming around me. It is easy to fall into a do what I want when I feel like it kind of attitude, especally in the upcoming winter months of Michigan. Like the picture.

I’m still a few years away from retirement, but it’s looming. I try not to think too much of it because I know people who passed before they had the chance. They all talked about what they would do when that magic day came, though. So moral of the story – relax now!!! I’m also in Michigan, BTW. The image is basically me in my leather recliner with my cat, Squirrel, and a cup of tea at hand 😉

I hit retirement just as covid hit the world so for the first two years I was basically in Whitmer jail.

I loved the one about not getting your boat out as she sent her husband to do just that, classic

My favorite was the story she made up about some dude dying because he got COVID from a gas pump handle, and died. Turned out to be pure fiction.

Agree with you there, whether lazy or not, we should make them count. Love that image! 🐈‍⬛ and yeah, if you’ve been working your ass off your whole life, a “restorative lazy” day is something I feel is a must if you can get them. Now I just need to take a break from my brain lol 😜

I agree wholeheartedly!!! Today is a cloudy, drizzly day. The desert is soaking in every drop thirstily. I am going to be lazy and absorb today. I deserve it, it was a long miserably hot summer.
