Can you hear me?

What technology would you be better off without, why?

Active listening software.

Seriously,  there’s nothing creepier than having a lively conversation with the hubs about, oh say… No. 2 pencils and then have ads for pencils (or laxitives) pop up on your Facebook newsfeed.

I’ve spent most of my career in marketing. I remember figuring things out the  hard way – developing personas from scratch, researching trends, and creating appropriate content. Ahh, the good old days…

Now, it’s all software and AI. Not only can you get advertisements for things you casually mention, you’ll also get ads for products you didn’t even know you needed.

Wow! An electric dog polisher! How could I have ever lived without one?

We get fed a constant barrage of things we now need. When we have all the things, we then have to upgrade or replace the worn, obsolete gadget.

Don’t even get me started on algorithms.

Indeed! All the big ones use it – Facebook, Amazon, Google, MS…

It’s funny how your tolerance develops. I used to hate the thought of Siri…I’d read how “someone” was recording snippets of your speech and every utterance could be strung together and sound just like you. It started with a short, curt question now and then. Then gradually, eh, asking the $&@# thing is a lot easier than typing it on a search engine. Now they could have “me” recite the Gettysburg Address 😎😑

Yep, it’s actually pretty scary. Yet, still – I just upgraded my Amazon Echos. I had a couple 1st generations that were starting to get buggy.
