Spring wind

Heres my first crack at the tankaTuedsay poetry challenge. The task is to choose a syllabic form. The theme is movement.

I’m only familiar with haiku and tanka. My initial thought was to do one of those, but this is supposed to be a challenge, right? So I looked up some other types and decided on a wayra.

The wayra is a popular form originating in Peru/Bolivia from the indigenous Quechua people. The word “wayra” means wind in the Quechua language. So what a better way to write about movement than with a poetry form named after something that really moves!

This short syllabic verse has five lines with a syllable count of 5/7/7/6/8. It is unrhymed and incorporates onomatopoeia within the verse.

So here it goes…

Spring Wind

Bitter cold whispers harsh

Though the branches, hiss, and dance

Winter lost its artic grip

Against the warm veins

Interwoven in the spring wind.

Lovely poem. I am an Alaskan, and I can attest to winter having finally lost its Arctic grip! I can only hope she doesnโ€™t lose sight of this goal before summer arrives!

Brrrr!! I want to visit there someday. It looks beautiful. I’m from Michigan. It gets pretty cold here, too. The weather can be psychotic in March and April. It’s supposed to get to 78 today. It’ll likely be 35 tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‚
