This is my submission for TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge, No. 10.
I’m all over this one! Unlike a haiku, which is typically about beauty or nature (the world around you), a senryu goes inward and focuses on the awkward moments in life.
I could write something the size of “War and Peace” for all my awkward moments, LOL! As a bonus, humor and sarcasm are encouraged.
To make the senryu series a little more interesting, we are asked to consider two opposing human experiences in the series. So, I stuck with a subject I know well…
Booze
Spicy amber flows
Tasty fire warms the tongue
Life of the party
Foggy brain slurs words
Not as funny as I thought
Social Seppuku*

*For those unfamiliar with the term, Seppuku is a form of Japanese ritualistic suicide involving disembowelment. If you’ve seen ShลGun, you know what I’m talking about. ๐
