#TankaTuesday Challenge #12 – the hainka

Sweet scented air drips

Following the clean spring rain

Lilacs hang their heads

The traffic streams blind

Unnoticed to the wonder

Sweet scented air drips

Purple blur periphery

Stop to look some other day

This is for the #TankaTuesday challenge #12. I won’t go into a huge explanation of what it is. It’s a little complicated,  but that made this challenge all the more fun 😁.

Essentially,  a hainka is a haiku followed by a tanka, with a slight twist. There’s a line of space between the two for breathing room. They should be able to stand alone but still relate. Also, the first line of the haiku is repeated in the third line of the tanka.

I used an image I took the other day on my walk. Along the roadside are the most magnificent liliac bushes I’ve ever seen. For a few short weeks in May, they are in full bloom and smell heavenly.

The road they are on is fairly busy, and the cars zoom by. I know the people in the cars can’t smell them. I wonder how many people even notice them as they go about their business. I hope so.

The world would be a better place if we all took the time to stop and smell the roses, or in this case, of course – the lilacs. 😉

Great hainka! I agree the world is better when we slow down and enjoy it.
