An eternal return
The wheel
Spinning the years, ticking the clock
Beginnings reach the end
Tomorrow starts
Again

The challenge for this TankaTuesday is to write a Cinquain with a theme about commencments – or more simply put – beginnings. As we typically find as we make our circles around the sun, beginnings also signify an end. So, that’s what I’m trying to convey here.
This little diddy was inspired (loosely) by Nietzsche’s concept of the Eternal Reoccurence. It revolves around the idea that everything you’ve experienced and will experience will repeat infinitely, with every detail remaining exactly the same.
Nietzsche presented Eternal Return not as a scientific theory but as a thought experiment. He intended for it to be a test of an individual’s ability to affirm life, even with the possibility of repeating the same experiences endlessly. The idea of the Eternal Return is often associated with amor fati or a love of fate. This involves finding joy and meaning in even the most difficult and painful parts of life, as they are all part of the larger, repeating cycle.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with a cinquain (I know I wasn’t!) it’s a five-line, non-rhyming poem featuring a syllable structure of 2-4-6-8-2. Cinquain poems should have a title. No rhyming.
This is actually a reverse Cinquain, so instead, it is 2-8-6-4-2.
I hope you all enjoy. 😉
