A bit redundant,  but I’ll bite…

Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

I love how some of these questions are phrased.

“A decision you made in the past…”

All decisions are made in the past. You can surmise what you might do in the future, but its not really a decision until you act on it. Then poof! It’s now in the past.

But I digress…

A decision that has made me grow…

I can think of a lot of things over the years. Learning to fly was a big one. Running a marathon was pretty good, too. Or getting involved in Toastmasters and community theater. But I’ll brush on something more recent.

Hubs and I started a vintage bookstore – Mr. Curio’s Vintage Books last September.

So far, our only purchasing platform is Etsy. It’s fairly easy because they figure out all the shipping.  I could handle domestic shipping on my own, but international shipping is a whole different beast! We’ve shipped books to Malaysia, Australia,  Canada and the UK so far. Each shipment was a bit nerve-wracking as they all have their own process.  I was thankful that Etsy helps you figure it all out.

Beyond that, the start up of the business was really interesting, fun, but yes, also a little scary.

We wanted to do it right, so we created an LLC. We also designed a cool logo, so we decided to go through the process of getting it trademarked. We ran into a bit of a snafu early on because our LLC name is MOJO Books. We started doing research on the name and realized there is a similarly named brick and mortar store in Tampa, FL that sells books and records – their name is already trademarked, so we were a bit concerned.

After a bit more thought, we renamed it to what it is now. Luckily, I know a trademark/patent lawyer from my time in community theater, so he helped us through it and gave us a bit of a deal. It’s still pending… fingers crossed!

We still have day jobs. This is more of a fun side hustle/hobby. I just started up a blog on our website, too. I’m hoping I can eek out enough time to nurture both blogs. Hubs is a good writer too, so I’ll have to show him the ropes. He’s a little skeptical of this whole blog thing. He’ll learn.

So anyway – if you’ve made it this far, I hope you get a chance to check out our Etsy store. I created a special code for all us bloggers and blog readers – use BLOGGER10 for ten percent off your first order. If nothing else, please consider subscribing to Mr. Curio’s Ponderings. You’ll be able to stay up to date on our latest listings and be the first to know about our sales events.

Until then, As Mr. Curio would say – Stay curious!
