Our town

Which is the best thing to do in your city?

I live in a small city where I can walk to a little downtown area. It’s what you might call quaint. The town had its Bicentennial celebration a few years ago, so there are a lot of historic buildings up and down the tree-lined avenue into town.

There’s an old theater. It still has the old-styled marquee with neon and big incandescent bulbs. I remember my Mom and Dad took me there when I was a kid. The time that stands out was when we saw Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein. I was in third grade. I thought it was funny. Years later, I saw it again, and thought it was REALLY funny. It also left me questioning my folks’ parenting skills. 😂

There has been a lot of development in the past 50 years, but its still maintained its old-fashioned, picturesque charm. One of my favorite things just started up again last weekend – the Farmer’s Market. In addition to tons of fresh produce from local farms, there are baked goods, meats, and artisan crafts like jewelry and soaps. It runs from May through November, offering a vibrant community atmosphere with live music, kids’ activities, and even cooking demonstrations.

Hubs and I will often walk down there with our dog, Freya, and come back with waaay more than we planned on. We aren’t very extroverted, but somehow we end up chit-chatting with complete strangers. Its nice when we run into people that have never been there before. They are always amazed at how nice it is.

There are a lot of nice things about my town. This is definitely my favorite.

That, and the bar across the street. 😉
